I have heard stories of mothers who pulled off their children's blankets, and poured some water on them every morning because they needed to wake up way before school time to pray. Others could not have dinner before they read the bible and prayed together as a family. Some mothers were known for their fervent prayers that woke every one up in the middle of the night. I will not even start on the grand mothers and aunties who whenever charged to pray, you better look for a seat because its gonna be a long one...and all the people in the family lineage will be mentioned in the prayer!
My favorite was one mother, who would wake up in the middle of the night to pray for her children. On this particular day, my friend, lets call him KM, was still in the sitting room with his cousins watching movies...And after that slow prayer song, and a little speaking in tongues, the mother went ahead and begun to tap the heavens. Her voice went above the roof and they had no option but to listen and in the dead of night, in the chilling quietness, her voice rang through:
" Lord please keep KM from contacting HIV-AIDS"
It was no doubt. Everyone had heard that! All his cousins. What did mama think of him? What did his cousins now think of him?
As much as it got to him, especially being the rebellious teenager that he was, he looks back today and is grateful that mama prayed. Km and his cousins always get so cracked up whenever they reminisce this day, this prayer.
There are so many more of such stories that our mothers and aunties made and we would love to hear them, and to share them here on this blog.
